Maine's Economic Recovery: Examining Federal and State Roles

MECEP 2010 State Tax and Budget Conference

The economic recession continues and almost every state is facing facing severe budget shortfalls. The good news is the country is poised to enact significant health care reform. The bad news is the jobs picture remains bleak. Once again we had a great crowd interested in all things economic. Larry Mishel, President of the Economic Policy Institute was our keynote speaker and provided both a little history of how we got here and some prescriptions for how we can get better. Our panels focused on critical investments in education, health care and green jobs. Michael Allen, Director of Economic Research for the state provided an analysis of Maine's revenue distribution and the recent tax reform legislation.
