Direct Care Remains a Critical Workforce Challenge

One of the most significant workforce issues in Maine, now and for the future, is the recruitment and retention of skilled frontline workers who provide long term care for our elderly and disabled residents. Since MECEP’s 2003 publication of Without Care: Maine’s Direct Care Worker Shortage, we have continued to analyze the needs of this workforce in coalition with long-term care providers, workers and consumers. This Direct Care Worker Coalition now has 26 organizational members.
