Trump Tax Plan

Call Congress Today

Urgent Action Needed to Stop the Trump-GOP Tax Plan

We need your help to prevent the largest redistribution of wealth through the tax code to the richest 1 percent ever.

That's right, the Trump-GOP tax plan will give billions of dollars in tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations at great expense to everyone else. Here's what you should know about this damaging plan:

  • Nationally, the richest 1 percent would receive 67 percent of the benefits from the Trump-GOP tax plan, while 1 in 6 taxpayers would see their tax bills go up.

  • In Maine, 1 in 7 taxpayers would see their tax bills go up. Among those who would see their taxes go down, the top 1 percent of Mainers whose average income is $1.2 million would receive an average tax cut of $43,130 while the poorest 20 percent of Mainers whose average income is $13,000 would get an average cut of $90.

  • Programs that many in our state rely on such as Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and investments in education and infrastructure would be jeopardized by this plan. That's because the tax cuts on offer aren't paid for.

We've seen this kind of approach before right here in Maine. And it hasn't worked!

When you cut taxes at the state or federal level for the wealthy, it merely pushes more costs on to the rest of us in the form of higher sales or property taxes, higher tuition costs, higher health care costs, fewer services, and less reliable or modern infrastructure. It also hurts our economy and makes it harder for workers already struggling to find a good paying job to get back on their feet.

Call your representative in Congress today and ask them to vote against tomorrow's budget resolution that would move us one step closer to passage of the Trump-GOP tax plan.

Mainers like you made a difference in preventing repeal of the Affordable Care Act. Now we need you to be vigilant in making sure that the Trump-GOP tax plan doesn't gain anymore traction.
