Economists say reduced unemployment benefits will worsen unprecedented revenue shortfall

In addition to action at the federal level, state lawmakers can reduce the impact of the recession by passing progressive revenue policies, explained Mario Moretto, communications director for the Maine Center for Economic Policy.

“Every dollar of revenue lost to the pandemic recession is a dollar that’s not available to fund Maine’s recovery. While Maine’s Congressional delegation must fight tooth and nail to send additional emergency funds to the state, elected officials in Augusta also have a role to play in solving the revenue crisis,” Moretto said.
