In 2024, Maine reached the highest rate of food insecurity in a decade, with 14.5% of residents struggling to put food on the table. In total, an estimated 203,000 Mainers, including over 50,600 children and 31,000 older adults, lacked consistent access to nutritious food. The numbers are even worse in rural Maine, where 18.8% of the population in Washington County faces food insecurity.
Federal policies are increasing hunger. Maine must find a path forward.
