Fund care, not cuts: Mainers call for progressive tax changes in State Budget

In a blog post this week, analyst James Myall of the Maine Center for Economic Policy pointed out that Gov. Janet Mills’ proposed budget does not fully address the fallout from federal policy changes, including the loss of enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies and new Medicaid work requirements that are expected to leave thousands without coverage. He describes the proposed budget as “generally limited,” and says that “in addition to the imminent federal threats to health care and food assistance, ongoing needs for additional funding in the child care and direct care system for adults go unmet.”
