Adolphsen was appointed to the Maine DHHS post by former commissioner Mary Mayhew in December 2013. One year later, the LePage administration introduced the new work requirements. According to James Myall with the Maine Center for Economic Policy, in the first three months after the policy was put in place “roughly 10,000 Maine households lost food assistance” and over the following three years, roughly 40,000 Mainers were dropped from SNAP.
