Mainers face higher inflation with tighter incomes than rest of nation

James Myall, an analyst with the Maine Center for Economic Policy, said it is important to distinguish between median income and average earnings from wages, rather than supplemental sources like Social Security or retirement benefits. Wage earners contributed to just under three quarters of all Maine households in 2024.
