Mainers testify that state’s lack of paid sick days is ‘arcane and insane’

In a packed public hearing before the state legislature’s Labor and Housing Committee Monday, Maine workers, employers and advocates argued in favor of a proposal for a statewide earned paid sick days law, saying it would protect the state’s most vulnerable workers and make Maine more competitive with neighboring states — four of which already have similar laws.

Representatives from the Maine AFL-CIO, the Maine Employment Lawyers Association, the Southern Maine Workers’ Center, the Maine Nursing Union, the Maine Center for Economic Policy, and other worker and family advocacy organizations testified in favor of Millett’s bill.
