The Maine Center for Economic Policy, a leading nonpartisan think tank dedicated to improving the economic well-being of Mainers with low and moderate incomes, opposes Ali’s amendment for three reasons, “Firstly, vulnerable workers deserve a livable wage regardless of the size of their employer. Secondly, employer size is a poor predictor of the organization’s financial capacity. Thirdly, [councilor Ali’s] proposed tiering system would exclude a large number of workers from the new minimum wage.”
