James Myall, a policy analyst with Maine Center for Economic Policy, said that women tend to see worse economic outcomes because of the expectations that society still places on them to fill caregiving roles.
“They are forced to take lower paying jobs, to work around childcare schedules, or drop out of the workforce altogether to take care of someone else,” he explained. “A lot of these bills together address the expectations we have on women to take care of others and the ripple effect it has on their income.”
