Statement in response to committee passage of LD 1879: An Act to Support Maine’s Agricultural Economy by Increasing Revenue from the Corporate Income Tax and Providing Property Tax Exemptions

“This is an important step towards a win for Maine’s farmers and food producers. By adding a modest 1.07% tax on corporate income over $3.5 million, this bill would advance tax fairness by raising the top rate to 10% — and put that money to work where it counts: our farms, our fields, and our future.

This bill fuels things like dairy stabilization and marketing loans. It backs local ag businesses, boosts rural resilience, and invests in homegrown innovation. Big corporations can afford to chip in. Maine agriculture can’t afford to be left behind.”
