Job listing: Development Associate (part-time)

The Maine Center for Economic Policy (MECEP) is seeking a part-time development associate to support the organization’s fundraising activities.

MECEP is a nonpartisan, nonprofit policy organization that provides rigorous economic analysis to advance economic justice and prosperity for all Maine people. For 25 years, MECEP has improved economic opportunity and security for Maine families by advocating for fairer tax policies, improved access to education, health care, and livable wage jobs, and investment in the public programs and services on which Mainers rely.

The development associate is a highly energetic and organized professional with the ability to cultivate donors, manage donor databases, organize fundraising events, and communicate effectively with donors. Together with the executive director and the MECEP board’s development committee, the development associate develops and implements an annual plan of development priorities and tasks to meet annual fundraising goals. Successful performance will result in an increase in gifts and revenue to support MECEP’s operations.

The position is based in Augusta, Maine, and reports to the executive director.

Job Description

This position will provide staff support to help MECEP’s executive director and operations team implement fundraising campaigns and development activities. Donor development is essential to MECEP’s overall success and the person in this role is dedicated to providing the support needed to help secure the resources necessary to fund MECEP’s work.

Examples of job responsibilities:

  • Manage MECEP’s donor database and produce and analyze reports
  • Assist with crafting donor appeals and other communications with donors
  • Jumpstart and manage MECEP’s donor circle
  • Organize and staff fundraising house parties and other events
  • Identify new donor prospects or upgrades and organize donor visits for executive director and board members
  • Assist with grant writing and grant reporting

Qualifications

  • Dedication to MECEP’s mission and a passion for economic justice and racial equity
  • Experience with managing and implementing individual fundraising tactics, such as fundraising appeals, house parties, and donor visits
  • Experience with donor development and stewardship; good interpersonal skills and professionalism for interacting with donors
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills
  • Robust database management skills such as Giftworks or other similar databases
  • Strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, manage competing priorities, and work independently and as part of a team

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $22,000 – $35,000 for up to 24 hours per week commensurate with experience. MECEP offers vacation, paid sick leave and family medical leave, 12 paid holidays, and annual SEP-IRA retirement contributions prorated for part-time hours.
